An open-world sandbox-style RPG

Kenshi is an open-world RPG with real-time strategy, survival and base-building elements. Though developed and published by Lo-Fi Games, its design was primarily handled by a single person, Chris Hunt. Rather than focusing on a central narrative with linear progression, the game aims to provide players with complete freedom.

The base-building gameplay elements have been compared to RimWorld and Dwarf Fortress. The combat system and overall freedom on offer, however, have helped to attract comparisons against the classic Ultima Online MMO.

Freedom and progression

Kenshi is a single-player role-playing game with an emphasis on sandbox-style features. Freedom is very much at the core of the experience, and there is no central narrative or hand-holding to guide players through the Kenshi map. Early in the game, Kenshi places a strong emphasis on survival elements.

The player character begins with no skills, but a leveling-up system allows new skills to be learned through actions. This can include functional skills that make it easier to acquire items or those that make survival easier, such as combat skills. Over time, other aspects are added to the gameplay loop, such as building squads or creating towns and outposts.

Limitless playing time

So, how long does Kenshi last? Essentially, this is up to the player. There is no central story or natural ending, so the length of play is dictated by personal goals and whether or not the player continues to survive.

Kenshi is most commonly compared to RimWorld, as the two games do share some similarities. Nevertheless, Kenshi is arguably better for players seeking a truly open-ended experience. It features an excellent combat system, whereas RimWorld's base-building elements have more personality and in-depth social features.

A true sandbox experience

Kenshi is an open-world RPG and a true sandbox game. It offers players plenty of freedom to develop new skills, build settlements, and focus on personal goals rather than pursuing a defined ending.

Clean

It’s extremely likely that this software program is clean.

What does this mean?

We have scanned the file and URLs associated with this software program in more than 50 of the world's leading antivirus services; no possible threat has been detected.

Warning

This software program is potentially malicious or may contain unwanted bundled software.

Why is the software program still available?

Based on our scan system, we have determined that these flags are possibly false positives.

What is a false positive?

It means a benign program is wrongfully flagged as malicious due to an overly broad detection signature or algorithm used in an antivirus program.
